On 1st March 2010, the new EU Agriculture Commissioner Dacian Ciolos arrived in Berlin for a two-day stay by invitation of Federal Agriculture Minister Ilse Aigner.

Federal Consumer Protection Minister Ilse Aigner welcomed the EU Commission’s indication that the Toy Directive may well be revised. "The safety of children’s toys is of the highest priority. Before the Directive becomes applicable throughout Europe in mid-2011, significant adjustments must be made to the limit values for certain chemical substances," stated Aigner in Berlin on Thursday.

"The success of FAO reform is key to the FAO's role in the new Global Partnership for Agriculture and Food Security", said Gert Lindemann, State Secretary at the Federal Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Consumer Protection, on the occasion of the 36th FAO Conference in Rome.

"With its special programme for agriculture totalling EUR 750 million, the Federal Government is supporting agricultural holdings which are experiencing liquidity bottlenecks, in particular due to collapsing milk prices", said the Federal Minister of Agriculture, Ilse Aigner. The agricultural sector is to benefit from this support programme through a swift implementation of the measures provided for in the coalition agreement.

"The Global Partnership for Agriculture and Food Security established at the World Food Summit in Rome points the way to the future," said the Federal Minister of Food, Agriculture and Consumer Protection (BMELV), Ilse Aigner, on the occasion of the World Food Summit in Rome. "In doing so, we are signalling the start of a new structure of international cooperation in world food affairs," the Minister went on to say.

"Agriculture and forestry in Germany and Malaysia make an important contribution to both food security and climate protection by aligning production more closely to the principles of sustainability", said Dr. Gerd Müller, Parliamentary State Secretary to the Federal Minister of Food, Agriculture and Consumer Protection, in his talks today with Mr. Bernhard Dompok, Malaysian Minister for Plantation Industries.

"Food, agriculture and consumer protection are three core areas for future action," said Ilse Aigner, Federal Minister of Food, Agriculture and Consumer Protection, today in the plenary session on the occasion of the government policy statement. "Energy and climate protection, and a sustainable quality of life for people in our country, are some of the main threads in the coalition agreements."

“Given the growing business interests of  German and Indian food businesses, the Federal Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Consumer Protection (BMELV), the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) and the Indian Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) have, for the first time, organised a joint event at ANUGA. This demonstrates the good and close German-Indian cooperation" said Ursula Heinen-Esser, Parliamentary State Secretary at the Federal Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Consumer Protection.

"Consumers need information in order to be able to make well-informed decisions on what to buy. We provide this information so that our support for sustainable fisheries begins right at the counters", said Ilse Aigner, Federal Minister of Food, Agriculture and Consumer Protection in Cologne today.
