The subject "sustainability" is a central theme for policy-makers, the business community and society. Decision-making processes should be shaped in such a way that they create an optimum balance between the environment, the economy and social issues. In this context consideration is given to the prospects of present-day and future generations and the impact on the local, national and global levels. The National Sustainability Strategy sets out the action framework for the Federal Republic of Germany.

The Federal Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Consumer Protection (BMELV) fully assumes its responsibility and has presented the first ministerial concept within the Federal Government.
