"Safeguard freedom of choice – guarantee transparency, rights and law enforcement."(Federal Minister Ilse Aigner)

The scale of services, costs and prices must be clear prior to the entering into of an agreement, and contracts must be comprehensible. Statutory provisions ensure clarity like, for instance, the Price Information Ordinance, general contractual law, distance selling legislation or the Act Against Unfair Competition. Many consumer rights are anchored in European legislation.

Besides state institutions independent consumer organisations also ensure transparency, provide consumer information and contribute to law enforcement. The BMELV supports nationwide consumer information, be it about the health and care market, the digital world or sustainable consumption.
