Food Safety Strategies
The brochure explains how the food safety system in Germany works, giving numerous practical examples and outlining objectives, principles and measures.
"Germany’s high level of food safety is renowned and regarded beyond its borders, putting products made in Germany in great demand for export," says Federal Minister Ilse Aigner in the foreword.
"Food safety involves a host of demands that must be met day in, day out. Constant improvement is called for in order to be able to deal with the problems that arise, both now and in the future. The publication goes beyond changing topical issues and gives an insight into the underlying structures connecting the links in the food production chain.
Science, industry and government in Germany have all learned from events of the past. They cooperate with one another far more effectively in the safeguarding of consumer interests when dealing with new food-related information.
However, in view of the global dimension of food markets, I believe that safety will continue to be a key area of focus. We face a range of new challenges and we must face them head on. These challenges include product development, differing standards applied in international trade, new research findings and improved analysis methods. Protecting the consumer is a dynamic process and an ongoing responsibility which must move with the times.
It is right to say that our food today in Germany is safer than ever before. We intend to keep it this way. Working to improve food safety is a daily duty for everyone involved in food production."
